There have been protests in Lome against the four year ban imposed on the Togolese team by the Confederation of African Football (Caf).

Thousands of people filled the streets to demand that Caf rescind its decision.

Caf had suspended the team from the next two Africa Cup of Nations after they withdrew from the tournament in Angola.

The team pulled out after a deadly armed attack on their team bus.

Two members of the Togolese delegation were killed in that attack by separatist rebels.

After the attack the Togolese Prime Minister sent a plane to bring the players home.

Caf said it regards this as government interference and decided to ban Togo for four years.

Organisers and press reports said between 25,000 and 50,000 people turned out for the protests.

Protesters also waved placards and banners calling for Caf president Issa Hayatou to resign.

Togo captain and Manchester City striker Emmanuel Adebayor has also called for Hayatou to step down.

what a decision,i don't think he has a feelings for his own African countries. some people have lost their lives just b;cos of angola 2010.do u mean to tell us that, the 2010 african cup is more important than the lives lost and the injuries, remember those same people were the ones to make it happen

This decision is absolutely nonsense and worse of all, irrational. Fact is, I don't to wait for the Europeans to tell us that, that decision was unpopular, irresponsible and insensitive but want to draw the attention to all that the international community has spoken in favour of the government of the republic of Togo not allowing the team to continue with the tournament. Not allowing the Togolese to participate in the cap is the right way of solving such a problem and hoping all right thinking would mobilize their effort to ask the Hayatou to resign humbly. He's a shame for thr continent to have such guys at the affairs of international assignment.
