Ghanaian international striker Asamoah Gyan has apologized for going AWOL before the Black Stars emplaned to Angola to engage the Palancas Negras in a friendly encounter which ended goalless in Luanda.

Asamoah together with two others, Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari refused to travel with the team on Monday to Angola and interestingly head Coach Milovan Rajevac was not informed as to the reasons behind their behavoiour.

The issue incensed the Ghana football Association who sent out a release on the matter and immediately began to launch an investigation into why the players stayed away without permission from the coach. In an interview with peace FM, Asamoah Gyan was sorry about the situation which has raised a lot of eyebrows in the country with public opinion sharply divided on whether such players should be banned for their recalcitrant behaviour.

However, Asamoah who plies his trade with French league 1 side Stade’ Renne qualified his apology by explaining why he had to boycott the Angola friendly and leave for France at all cost. He said, “My club demanded my services from the FA and that was contained in a series of faxes sent to the GFA and I was under excessive pressure to leave but its unfortunate I did not inform the coach about it”. “I want the coach and all Ghanaians to forgive me” he added.

Meanwhile Michael Essien and Sulley Muntari are yet to comment on the issue which has generated heated debate in the country.

Hmmmmmmm Asamoah your appology will be accepted but,how comes you off your cell phone at that period of time the team well about to leave to airport?i think i made commit about Black Stars before how we can invite our periotic Ghanaians to play for the team, some of our players thought they are perminent in the team but this is not something that they could think about it,every Ghanaian have his shares in the team, the team does not belong to some group of people, they should beard in mind,i think the players doesnt play the team for free we use our tax payers money to pay them so we can invite any player to play for GHANA,Aban Deutschland
