Benin referee Bonaventure Koffi Codjia has been suspended indefinitely by the Confederation of African Football. The move comes after he took no action against Algeria's Fawzi Chaouchi, who appeared to head-butt him in the semi-final of the Africa Cup of Nations.

The keeper was only given a yellow card for his confrontation with the referee.Codjia, who is on the shortlist for the World Cup, did not put the incident in his match report on the game that Algeria lost 4-0.Chaouchi was enraged by the way in which Egypt's Hosni Abd Rabou ran up to the ball, stopped and feigned his spot kick before stroking it easily into the net.

Codjia awarded the goal and Chaouchi chased after the referee, grabbing him from behind and turning him around and appeared to butt him.He was quickly dragged away by team-mates.A minute earlier the referee sent-off Algeria defender Rafik Halliche for a second caution for a tackle that led to Egypt being awarded the penalty.

Chaouchi was later sent off when an attempted kick at an opponent earned a second caution.Algeria wing back Nadir Belhadj was also given a straight red card for a two-footed lunge with 20 minutes left as his side lost 4-0.Caf said disciplinary proceedings against Belhadj and Chaouchi would be held next month. Both face bans which could see them ruled out of the World Cup in South Africa.

i think you was watching another match as i think the whole world was watching Egypt and Algeria but only you people was watching another game, in brief - halesh should get red card directly as he stopped goal 100% regardless he had or not a card before - chauchi should get red card for his behavior but he did not (maybe you did not see that. -ziani should get red card because he kicked mohamady without ball (maybe still this was in the replay) ghazali should get red card because hi kicked ahmed hassan from back without ball (that was in another game) belhage was playing on foot the bal was not there and please watch 100angle for that one. - chauchi played 45 min he did not deserve to play. what did you see beside that, you should say we lost we were bad not to put down who win, this is you even your Tv they did not show any part of the game except the cards but why those card was for they did not show , it is so embarrassing to show head kicks and foot tackles, you should just go fuck your self in peace

The referee should not be banned for not giving the Algeria goal keeper a red card but he should have been banned for giving Halish the 1st yellow card and also for allowing the penalty after the player has stopped to trick the Algerian goal keeper. Koffi Codjia should have got a red card. This is a disgrace for African and international football and to every sports person because they keep quiet when they see things like this. Algeria played a team of 12 men the referee plus eleven players while Algeria had only 8. Think about it. The CAF is in Egypt and most of its members are Egyptians and Mr Hayatoo is a disgrace for football and the sport all together. He should resign and let somebody with football knowledge lead the CAF and the African teams should push to move CAF to another country. The other scandalous decision is Gabon. How can you ban a national football team for 2 cups because they were traumatised by the lack of security. They had 2 palyers killed for God sake. They don't need this. And last the match Cameroon and Egypt. The referee giving away a goal that was a foot away from the line. Mr Damon Jerome { South Africa }should get glasses or get a sack. I am sure that he 's got a good sight but he only wanted to give a gift for his Egyptian friends. Finally FIFA should intervene and the FIFA president should have been in Benguela not Luanda on the 28th of January because he knows very well what happened to the Algerian team in Cairo. What happened to the inquiry anyway? Egypt should have been banned from CAF in the First place for what happened to the Algerian team and from International Football. BUT WHAT WE SEE IS THE WORLD PRAISING THEM. How disgraceful is that to all of you sports people who say nothing and let this happen?
