Ghana Captain Asamoah Gyan will play for Al Ain against Al Shabab on Thursday despite the death of his mother.

Mrs Cecilia Love Mensah Gyan met her untimely death when she drove her car into a pillar after she lost control of the steering wheel at the Ghana National Association of Teachers in the capital, Accra on Tuesday.

The 26-year-old will defy his grief to turn out for his club side before heading home to be with his family.

Al Ain first team supervisor, Mohammed Obeid Hammad visited him at home on Wednesday and said the Ghanaian international was ready to play through the sorrow.

‘“Al Ain consider Gyan as one of the family and his decision to play the match in such circumstances proves this fact,” Hammad said

“Cosmin [Olaroiu, head coach] gave the player permission to leave to go to Ghana but he insisted on playing the match.

‘So we decided to give him permission to travel to Ghana after the match to meet his family and receive condolences in Accra.”

Al Ain Football Company Board Chairman, Shaikh Abdullah Bin Mohammad Bin Khalid Al Nahyan, telephoned Gyan to offer the club’s condolences.
