Ghana defender Isaac Vorsah has been sidelined for six weeks, sparking fears over his fitness for the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations.

The 24-year-old, who plays for Austrian giants Salzburg, suffered the knee injury while training with his club last week, MTNFootball.com can reveal.

He missed the club’s 5-0 win over Admira Wacker over the weekend because of the setback.

Tests have now shown that he will be out of action for six weeks sparking some anxiety for Ghana over his fitness for the continent’s flagship tournament in Janaury in South Africa.

Vorsah is a key player for the Black Stars as he was the best players in Ghana last two competitive matches.

His absence will be a huge blow for the four-time champions who are seeking to win the title for the first time in 31 years.

The defender is not expected to return to action until late December – just about three weeks before the Africa Cup of Nations starts in South Africa.

With Ghana expected to submit its final squad for the tournament ten days before the competition kicks off in 19 January, Vorsah must use just about two weeks to regain his full fitness.

The Black Stars list must be submitted to CAF by 9 Janaury which means Ghana’s technical team must be assured of his full fitness by that date if they are to name him in their squad.

Vorsah is noted as one of Ghana’s best players thanks to excellent performances while playing for his country.

But Ghana has some reliable replacement for Vorsah as defenders Jerry Akaminko, Rashid Sumaila and Moahmmed Awal have been fighting for the centre-back position.
