Andre Ayew has injured his hamstring in training with Marseille on January 2, according to the club. The French giants have subsequently written to the Ghana FA in an official communiqué.

With Kwesi Appiah already sweating on news that one of his four strikers, Yahaya Mohammed, is out due to what the FA say is an injury, this news will be worrisome.

In reaction, the GFA have asked Marseille to send Andre Ayew to Abu Dhabi for examination by its own medical team. "We have written back to Marseille to tell them to release the player as we want to check him out ourselves," the FA spokesman told Citi Sports on Friday morning.

"In Dubai there are world class facilities where we can also monitor the progress of the player," Ibrahim Sannie Daara explained.

Andre Ayew is said to be himself with anxiety at the prospect of his injury hampering the country's chances of doing well at the Nations Cup. Ghana are flying to the UAE for shakeups, to last eleven days, before their game with DR Congo on January 20.

The team will play Egypt and Tunisia in preparatory friendlies while in the Middle East.
