Assistant referee Alidu Salif Malik has been selected to officiate at the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa.

Malik, who turns 40 later this year, made the cut after impressing at the CAF Elite Referees Course held in Cairo, Egypt last November.

Information gathered by GNA Sports indicates that compatriot David Laryea, who also took part in the Cairo course fell short of the standards.

The selection of Malik, fills the void after no Ghanaian match official was on the list for the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.

Having carved a niche for himself as one of the most consistent assistant referees, the Africa Cup of Nations serves the highest point for Tamale-based referee since receiving his international badge in 2006.

Malik was also at the 2011 African Youth Championship held in South Africa.
