Marseille and Ghana striker Jordan Ayew has been banned for one match by the French football authorities for the bizarre red card he got over the weekend.

The decision by the Disciplinary Committee of the French Football League means the enterprising youngster will miss Saturday’s early kick off against Valenciennes.

The 21-year-old set an unwanted Ligue 1 record for the quickest sending off ever, after he made a dreadful cameo appearance in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Evian Thonon Gaillard at Parc des Sports.

Ayew arrived as a second-half substitute with the tie all-square, but lasted just 111 seconds before being given his marching orders after a second bookable offence.

Marseille were already a man down after Kasim Abdallah saw red after fouling Saber Khlifa in the box, allowing Evian’s Yannick Sagbo to score from the penalty spot, cancelling out Andre-Pierre Gignac’s impressive opener on 50 minutes.

Ayew replaced Mathieu Valbuena on 73 minutes and was booked within 60 seconds for his first foul of the game.

Then, moments later, referee Antony Gautier was left with no choice but to produce a second yellow card, after Ayew jumped for a 50/50 with Pavel Ninkovic with his studs showing, as Marseille broke free from an Evian corner.

Abdallah has also been banned for match ruling him out of the match against Valenciennes.

Marseille stay third in Ligue 1 on 43 points from 24 games, eight adrift of leaders Paris Saint-Germain, having failed to win a league game since January 19, when they edged Montpellier at the Stade Velodrome in a 3-2 victory.
